Rufus Owolabi

I teach engineering in the F6RM and in the college. I have been very curious about engineering and how things work in particular since I was young. So, I obtained my degree in BEng (Hons) mechanical engineering from the University of Bolton in 2008. After this, I worked in engineering, foods and security industry for few years. Following this, I moved to work with Clear Link Support Limited in collaboration with Liverpool Hope University as a note taker in 2009 where my passion for teaching became apparent.

My teaching experience actually started from Africa where I taught GCSE mathematics, physics and chemistry in tutorial lessons. So, during my involvement with the undergraduate students of Liverpool Hope University in 2010, I decided to apply for postgraduate teaching programme at Liverpool John Moores University. During the PGCE, I taught engineering, design and technology and maths in schools and colleges which helped to further develop my teaching skills and strategies and I recently completed my PGCE in engineering with qualified teacher status.

Finally, after viewing the job advertisement on TES for the position of engineering teacher in the F6RM, I straightaway applied because I see it as an opportunity to work outside the North West area and also believe that it will be a challenging and rewarding experience. I was called for an interview and thought I did my best but I was called again to attend a second interview, although less formal. I was extremely joyful to be offered the position and grateful for the opportunity to be part of the team here. I hope to add values to the lives of my students and make great contributions to the success of the college as a whole. I am a devoted Christian and enjoy going to church. In my spare time, I play football, table tennis, as well as reading and traveling.
