Hafsa Bobat Garcia

Hafsa teaches geography and is the Environmental Officer at the Isle of Wight College. She completed her Masters degree in geographical sciences, with a focus on hydrology, glaciology and environmental change, at the University of Bristol in 2007.
Since then she has spent time travelling to Palestine, Morocco. China and the US, where she met her husband Juan. Prior to graduating with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education she taught geography for a year in an international school in London. Her teaching experience includes a wide range of learners of different ages, backgrounds and abilities as well as with single sex classes in a faith school.
Hafsa grew up in Southsea and often visited the Isle of Wight on family holidays, where her interest in geography was sparked during trips to Alum Bay. She is a practising Muslim and is of mixed ethnicity (English and Indian, and married to a Puerto Rican!). This has given her a particular interest in learning about people from different cultures and religions as well as travelling, and she would love to share her experiences and hear about those of others in the college.
Hafsa was delighted to accept a position to teach geography in the new Isle of Wight F6rm, ‘it’s a fantastic opportunity to be part of a brand new development and I’m really looking forward to starting’ she said, ‘I’ve heard lots of good things about the college and it’s in a great location too, especially for geography!’
