Abigail Wheeler

I am returning to the Island to take up the post of Curriculum Team Leader and to teach Film and Media Studies at the F6rm. Having grown up here, I was excited to hear about the creation of a sixth form centre as I believe the experience of college life, which enables a new beginning, accessibility to diverse subjects and the opportunity to meet students from other walks of life, is extremely valuable. I have worked in the post 16 sector consistently throughout my teaching career, specifically in three different sixth form colleges across Surrey and Hampshire, two of them of Beacon status, and at an FE college on the outskirts of London. Although my undergraduate degree was in Theatre Studies, I have gone on to study at Masters level specialising in film history and have undertaken archive-based project work for Canary Wharf film festival and the East End film festival in the last few years.
Apart from my primary passion for film, I love graphic design, ceramics, photography and textiles and have a compulsion for second hand clothes and furniture. I am thrilled to be a part of the Island’s first college sixth form and look forward to working with you.
