Sports Studies

Sports Studies A Level @ F6rm

Sport and physical education is a combination of science, social science and history. It has been designed to encourage students to take a broad view of sport and physical education, to develop their capacity for critical thinking and to appreciate the relationship between the different aspects of the subject.

Course Content

This will be a combination of coursework, practical assessment and end of year exams covering sociocultural and historical effects, performance, physiological, biomechanical and psychological factors.

What Will I Learn?

You will develop a theoretical understanding of the physiological, psychological and sociological factors that underpin sporting performance. You will learn theory, observe sporting performances and may even analyse your own performance on video.

Entry Requirements

We would normally require candidates to have the standard sixth form entry requirements. It is not necessary to have GCSE physical education although it would be useful.

Career Opportunities

You might consider sports coaching, lifeguard or personal fitness instruction work or IT connected to the sports industry. As a graduate you could consider the leisure industry, sports development, outdoor activities manager, sports marketing and media or postgraduate study. Working outside sports studies a degree could equip for accountancy, graduate management, banking, the police, fire service and armed forces.
