Performance Studies

Performance Studies will develop you intellectually, artistically and socially as you expand your imagination, sensitivity and artistic knowledge of dance, drama and music. It is all about the performing arts industry and the different careers and progression routes through it. You will be able to specialise in one or two areas but you don’t necessarily need to be able to dance, sing, act and play an instrument to a high standard for this course, although if you can do more than one it will be helpful.
Course Content
Creating performance , performance contexts and a performance project are among the main topics studied. These will cover the work of choreographers, composers and playwrights. You will study the styles and the social, cultural and historical contexts in which performing arts operate.
What Will I Learn?
This is an exciting and dynamic exploration of the three art forms of music, dance and drama. It is a multi-disciplinary course, developing qualities of imagination, sensitivity and artistic knowledge and understanding. It is essential if you wish to go on to specialist training and ideal if you have performance flair and wish to broaden your curriculum. You will develop your practical skills and you will develop methods to devise performance material for a given time, situation and audience.
Entry Requirements
We would normally require candidates to have the standard sixth form entry requirements, including GCSE English Language to at least grade C.
Career Opportunities
Besides performing in music, film or theatre productions you could go into teaching (with further training). There are also opportunities in arts administration, retail and general administration, technical support and management in performing arts.
