Mathematics

Mathematics is an involving and fascinating subject and a vital tool supporting the study of other subjects. Learning Mathematics means learning how to use it to solve problems. Mathematics can be used to describe and predict a diverse range of things for example, the way the economy works, the motion of planets, the speed of a chemical reaction, the behaviour of large group of people and the way decisions about managing a business can be supported are all better understood using maths.
Course Content
Mathematics is the study of structure and provides the bedrock for getting to the heart of numbers, shapes, movement, data and relationships. In Biology, Economics, Business Studies, Geography and Computing, Mathematics is the single most useful and adaptable qualification to have, not to mention one of the most (if not the most) respected! Most of this course is quite abstract and algebraic so an enjoyment of Maths for its own sake is crucial.
Throughout the course you will learn:
- To interpret and use mathematical data and symbols
- Organize data efficiently
- Formulate problems into mathematical terms and select and apply appropriate techniques of solution
- Develop mathematical arguments by making logical deductions and manipulation of mathematical articles
