Graphic Design A Level @ F6rm

There can be few people living in the developed world whose life has not been touched or influenced by information and graphic design. Understanding how audiences react to visual material and how they can be influenced by cultural or fashion trends is key to the problem solving process.

It is increasingly important for the graphic designer to strive for order and clarity. Professional graphic design will continue to thrive because ideas and innovation, good composition, and a creative eye cannot be ‘packaged’.

Course Content

The F6rm Graphic design course follows the AQA A-Level specification. In the first year (AS) you will study three areas of Graphic Communication: design for print, advertising, communication and computer graphics.

In the second year you will be expected to develop a personal investigation based on an idea, issue, concept or theme leading to a finished piece or pieces. The practical element will be linked with some aspect of contemporary or past practice of artists, designers or craftspeople.

Career Opportunities

You could work in one of a number of arts-based and creative fields such as Freelance or Corporate Graphic Design, Advertising, Copy Writing, Design, Illustration, Web Design, TV and Film, Multi Media, Account Handling, Publishing and Teaching.

Entry Requirements

We usually require candidates to have the standard F6rm A-level entry criteria, including GCSE English Language to at least grade C and preferably a relevant subject to grade C. You must be willing to read graphic design sources beyond the set texts, including books and articles. You will also need to be capable of sustained attention to detail and commitment in order to complete the portfolio of work and accompanying written material successfully.

Costs

The course itself does not incur any costs from individuals; however students are expected to have a USB/Memory stick, at least 2GB, available from most computing outlets. Consider a larger memory allocation if you are undertaking other AS’s including Media and Photography.
