Business Studies
Virtually any career you choose to follow in the future will require knowledge of how business works. Studying this subject allows you to think about products that interest you, such as the Apple iPhone 4, and asks you to consider all aspects of its design process, launch and ultimate commercial success.

Course Content
At the beginning of the course you will consider what makes entrepreneurs, such as the owner of the $1billion website Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, successful in business. You will discover how to go about setting up a new business and be invited to apply your own business ideas to the theory you will be learning. You will study aspects of marketing, finance, human resources and operations. In your second year you will look at much larger businesses and consider why and how multinational corporations grow. You will think about the external factors that affect business such as interest rates and inflation and how businesses have to adapt in a recession.
Career Opportunities
The “world’s your oyster” for careers open to business studies graduates. Opportunities can include; banking, the stock market, actuarial science, accounting, management and self-employment. The skills you will gain, and an awareness of how organisations work, will be valuable in Higher Education and employment. Many students go on to study Business Studies or related subjects, such as Management Science and International Business, at university.
Entry Requirements
Candidates will normally be expected to have the standard sixth form entry requirements including GCSE Mathematics and English language to at least grade C or above. It is not necessary to have studied Business Studies at GCSE to take AS/A Level. You will be required to manipulate business formulae and work out percentage change and will also need to be able to write fluently.
Costs
The course book will be issued for the duration of the course. You will require a ring binder file plus dividers; a hole-punched A4 note pad; pens; highlighter pens and a calculator.
