Art and Design
Experience exciting and challenging opportunities to learn much more about what is means to be creative and imaginative. You will explore how and why art may be considered a form of communication. Painting and drawing are central to this as well as seeing your work in an historical context. You will acquire new skills, broaden your knowledge, and gain the confidence you need to achieve your full potential in this rich and exciting subject area.
Course Content
Our aim is to ensure you have the skills, knowledge and understanding to produce informed, creative and highly skilled work. You will experience a wide range of media including drawing and painting, printing, mixed media and 3D work. Lessons are mostly practical with the addition of lectures, debates and discussions about the work of artists/designers past and present. Visits to local and national museums and galleries are an essential aspect of the course.

- To further develop skills, knowledge and understanding in Art and Design
- To follow a programme of study that provides personal challenges for the individual candidate
- To acquire a greater understanding and interest of the critical contextual aspects of Art and Design
- To take risks with ideas and techniques and further develop an understanding of your own work
Entry Requirements
We would normally require candidates to have the standard sixth form entry criteria, including GCSE Art to at least grade B, and be able to present a portfolio of work.
Career Opportunities
This course is one of the recognized subjects that can lead to degree-level studies. Other openings are art therapists, fashion/textile designer, graphic designer, product designer, theatre, film and television design, and teaching (with further training).
